Hasan A. Aliyev was born in the Jomardli village, Sisian region, Republic of Armenia. In 1932 he graduated from the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute, from 1932 to 1934 he was a postgraduate student at the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Institute of Cotton Growing.

In 1944 he defended his PhD thesis on "Soils of the lower reaches of the rivers of the south-eastern slope of the Greater Caucasus".

From 1944 to 1949 he worked as deputy director for scientific work at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, and from 1949 to 1952 - director of the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

In 1950, he was appointed secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan and first deputy minister of agriculture of the republic.

Since 1952, Hasan Aliyev was elected a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR. He is one of the founders of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR.

 From 1952 to 1954 he was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan.

From 1952 to 1957 he worked as a scientific secretary of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

From 1957 to 1968 he was the head of the department of "Geography of forest lands" of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

In 1965 he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Lands of the Greater Caucasus and ways of their effective use" (as part of the Azerbaijan SSR).

From 1968 to 1987 he worked as the director of the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, and from 1987 to 1993 - as an adviser to the director.

The main direction of scientific research was the geography of forest lands, the compilation of soil maps of the republic, the solution of environmental problems, the development of land reclamation, the propaganda of biological and environmental problems of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the international community. H. Aliyev devoted almost his entire life to solving the problems of nature protection in Azerbaijan. He played an important role in the training of national personnel in Azerbaijan and their comprehensive development. Dozens of candidates and doctors of sciences trained by him now manage important scientific research, production and the agricultural sector of Azerbaijan. In 1976, H. Aliyev became a member of the editorial board of the Azerbaijan Soviet Encyclopedia.

He was the founder and editor-in-chief of the journal “Azerbaijani Nature”, a member of a number of scientific councils on geography, president of the Azerbaijan Geographical Society and the Nature Conservation Society.

The academician visited many countries of the world - Greece (1953, 1958), Canada (1978), Poland (1980), USA (1977, 1984), Romania (1966), Sweden (1966), Hungary (1979), Japan (1980), Germany (1981) and others and conducted scientific and creative exchanges.

Academician H.A. Aliyev was awarded the Order of Lenin (1977), the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1952), the Order of the Badge of Honor (1950), the Order of the October Revolution (1982), the Vavilov Gold Medal (1972), etc. for his services to science and socio-political activities. He was awarded high state awards and was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan of several convocations. In 1974, he was awarded the title of Honored Scientist of the Republic for his services to science, and in 1978, he was awarded the State Prize of the Republic for his comprehensive work on environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources in Azerbaijan.

He published more than 1000 important scientific and popular science works. In particular, he wrote "Lands and Prospects of the Pirsaat Plain" (1940), "Forest and Forest-Steppe Lands of the North-Eastern Part of the Greater Caucasus" (1964), "Lithogenic Lands of the Eastern Part of the Greater Caucasus" (1970), "Let's Protect Tugai Forests" (1984), "Alarm Drum" (1976, 1982), "Lands of the Plain Rivers of the South-Eastern Slope of the Greater Caucasus" (1948), "Brown Forest Lands" (1965), "Lands of the Kurboyu-Tugai Forests", "Lands of the Greater Caucasus" and other works. H. Aliyev was known not only in Azerbaijan, but also throughout the world as a strong theorist and major specialist in the field of soil science, nature conservation and ecology. His classic book "The Drum of Excitement" became a call to all our nature lovers and a national book. His methods of applying land reclamation and phytoreclamation proved to be a necessary experience in developing agrarian reforms in Azerbaijan.

The academician's work "Nabat", published in 1982, gave a great impetus to the revival of nature conservation and restoration work in our republic. By 1978, the number of members of the Azerbaijan Society for Nature Conservation had already exceeded one million, which in turn attracted our public, including youth.
