An article by Tural Bayramov, a doctoral student of the Department of Demography and Population Geography of the Institute of Geography of ANAS titled "Dynamics of the rural population and settlements of the Guba-Khachmaz economic-geographical region" was published in the impact journal “Geography and Natural Resources”, which is indexed in https://www.sibran.ru/journals/issue.php?id=183635).
The article analyzes the dynamics of growth in the number and share of the rural population of the Guba-Khachmaz economic and geographical region for 1989-2019. As a result of a sociological survey conducted in villages, the factors influencing the standard of living of the rural population and its demographic development were studied, a grouping was carried out according to the size and structure of the population, and relevant tables, maps and graphs were compiled. It has been established that the economic crisis, which forced the population to leave their homes in the early 1990s, created a negative balance of migration and reduced the natural population growth in rural areas.
Despite the favorable geographical position of the region with good reserves of oil and natural gas, favorable conditions for the development of fruit and vegetable, grain, livestock and food enterprises, the problems associated with the production of agricultural products, processing enterprises, public services in the post-Soviet period had a negative impact and increased the intensity of internal migration.
After the Republic of Azerbaijan gained independence in 1991, the socio-economic development of the Guba-Khachmaz region, the availability of a sufficient number of jobs, the quality of services in accordance with demand had a positive impact on the socio-economic development of the population, the number of returnees increased.
