Professor Amir Aliyev spoke at the meeting of the Academic Council of the Department of Geosciences Nov 23, 2022 | 07:11 / IMPORTANT EVENTS

The next meeting of the Academic Council of the Department of Earth Sciences was held under the chairmanship of the Vice-President of ANAS, academician Ibrahim Guliyev.

The issue of shallowing of the Caspian Sea, the causes of this process and various problems caused by it were discussed at the meeting.

Academician Ibrahim Guliyev, who opened the meeting, noted that the processes associated with changes in the level of the Caspian Sea have a direct impact on the political and economic prospects of the countries surrounding the Caspian, and that the Caspian Convention and subsequent state agreements open up opportunities for multilateral scientific cooperation in this direction.

Doctor of Geography, Professor Amir Aliyev (Institute of Geography named after academician Hasan Aliyev) presented scientific information "Changes in the level of the Caspian Sea: causes and consequences", Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov "Monitoring of the geodynamic conditions of the Caspian Sea and adjacent territories", Corresponding Member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli "The role of seismic processes in fluctuations in the level of the Caspian". The discussions on scientific information were attended by Corr. Rauf Gardashov, prof. Parviz Mammadov, prof. Galib Efendiev.

In addition to global climate change and anthropogenic impacts affecting the variability of the Caspian Sea level, the participants of the event noted that another important factor is the conduct of interdisciplinary modern scientific research aimed at studying seismotectonic processes in the Caspian Sea, taking measures aimed at reducing damage associated with level variability, preparing scientific personnel in this direction. They emphasized the need for a wide use in scientific work of new modern research methods, including satellite images, InSAR technologies and seismological network data.

It was decided to prepare proposals and recommendations on the issue discussed at the scientific council and submit them to the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Presidium of ANAS.
