On May 4-5, 2017, the Azerbaijan Geographic Society together with the Department of Geography of the Literary Department of the Aegean University, on May 4, the Turkish guests made a trip to the Shamakha district located on the southern slope of the Major Caucasus.

Watching on the way for a variety of landscapes, they listened attentively to interesting explanations of Academician Ramiz Mammadov, president of the AGS and director of the Institute of Geography. The strongest impression on the guest had a visit to the grave of a Turkish soldier who died in the name of the freedom of the Azerbaijani people during the massacres organized by the Armenians in 1918-1920. The news about the protection and maintenance of the grave by the state touched the Turkish guests.

After visiting the city mosque they went to Pirgulu. Here they visited the astrophysical observatory and got acquainted with its functioning. They also visited the Biogeographic Hospital of the Institute of Geography, appreciating its activities.

Then they went up to the forest zone, Avakhly village. The guests were pleasantly surprised by the change in the landscape at a distance of 150 km from the semi-desert to broadleaf mountain forests.

Turkish guests thanked the AGS, in particular academician Ramiz Mammadov, for the well-organized event. They expressed a wish and stressed the importance of holding such events by both countries.
