A new edition of the Institute of Geography named after Academician G. Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan entitled "History and Toponyms of the Ethnic Settlement of Karabakh" has been published.
The work was prepared in 2005 by the late authors Academician Budag Budagov and Doctor of Historical Sciences Giyasaddin Geybullayev, who are leading experts in the field of toponymy of Azerbaijan, but for certain reasons it was not published. As noted in the book, "in the process of writing the work, the list of references left by G. Gaibullaev is not complete." For this reason, it took a lot of time and effort to complete the list of references used in the work, which Zakir Eminov undertook.
The Editor-in-chief of the monograph is general director of the institute, doctor of geographical sciences Zakir Eminov, scientific editor is doctor of philosophy in geographical sciences Mahira Abbasova. The book consists of 2 parts and 467 pages. Part I, entitled "On the Ethnic and Political History of Upper Karabakh", consists of 7 chapters, which tells about the Turkic tribes that settled in Upper Karabakh before and after our era, about the facts indicating that Karabakh is an Albanian territory, the words Turkic origin in the ancient Armenian language and the settlement of Armenians in Upper Karabakh. Part II is devoted to the explanatory toponymic dictionary of Karabakh.
The monograph examines the issues of historical-ethnic settlement and toponymy of Karabakh, which is a historically-geographically inseparable part of Azerbaijan. The book highlights the ethnic processes, issues of settlement and migration that took place in Karabakh during long historical periods.
The book is intended for scientists dealing with issues of toponymy, population geography, demography, historical geography, students of higher educational institutions (bachelors and masters) and a wide range of readers.
