Rauf Huseynov, junior researcher at the Institute of Geography named after academician H. Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, took part in the VI international symposium “Eurasian Biodiversity - SEAB 2023”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev
An article by Rauf Huseynov “Identification of vegetation changes using remote sensing and GIS on the example of Gubadli region” was published in the conference materials.
The article states that the area of very severely degraded areas in 2022 increased by 12.37% (9,841,312 hectares) compared to 1992 during the occupation, while the area of degraded areas at the background level decreased by 3.05% (2,442,092 hectares).
In addition, based on the analysis of change detection, the optimal bioclimatic parameters for the normal development of plant ecosystems were determined, the directions of transformation were calculated, and the results of the degree of susceptibility of ecosystems to drought stress were clarified using the vegetation health index (VHI).
