Employees of the Institute of Geography named after academician H. Aliyev of MSE AR visited the northern part of the Caspian Sea belonging to Azerbaijan in order to study the dynamics of the sea coast: Nabran, Mukhtadir, Beshbarmag, Shabran.
Head of the Department of Geomorphology of the Coast and Bottom of the Caspian Sea, Professor Amir Aliyev, Leading Researcher, PhD Nazim Akhmedov and specialist Ramin Atakishiev studied the processes occurring on the coast due to fluctuations in the level of the Caspian Sea, and also studied the geomorphological state of the coastal zone in connection with a sharp drop in level in recent years.
In the course of research carried out in the said area, the current situation was analyzed in a comparative form using the benchmarks used in the observations made in 2011 with the figures determined in that year and the changes that have occurred over the past 13 years.
For example, if the distance from the tree to the sea was 50 meters, now it has increased to 200 meters. Compared to 2011, sea level has dropped by 1.5 meters, and negative processes occurring on the coast have intensified (ponds and sinkholes, pollution of coastal areas).
