A presentation of the recently published atlas on geography for students of grades 6-11 was held at the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The event was attended by geography teachers of secondary schools and higher educational institutions, representatives of the publisher of the Atlas, mass media and employees of the institute.
The Director General of the Institute, Professor Zakir Eminov, Geography Teacher of School No. 175 Aygun Aliyeva, Senior Researcher of the Institute of Education Tarana Ismayilova, Head of Department of BSU Saleh Nagiyev, Head of Department of the Institute of Geography Nariman Pashayev worked on a set of updated maps. The reviewers were Dean of the Geography Faculty of BSU Medzhal Gojamanov, Head of Department of the Institute of Geography Solmaz Rzayeva and Ilaha Kerimova.
Professor Zakir Eminov noted in his speech that in order to improve the quality of teaching subjects in secondary schools in Azerbaijan, textbooks are regularly updated, enriched with information and periodically republished. In addition to textbooks used in geography lessons, it is also important to prepare additional materials, maps and reference books. These materials are the main source of information when studying certain topics.
It is important to reflect on the maps the socio-demographic, socio-political and economic processes taking place in most regions of the world, including Azerbaijan. Changes in political and political-administrative maps, updating of geographical names and progress in economic development are reflected in these materials, which help to make the educational process more effective.
The atlas is distinguished by both its content and technical quality. The New Atlas took into account and reflected recent changes in the political and administrative map, the economic development of Azerbaijan, and the redefinition of the boundaries of economic regions. The electronic database of the atlas has been modernized and made more convenient to use.
The director of the institute noted that the new Atlas will become a useful source of knowledge for students studying for undergraduate and graduate degrees at universities, and it will be easier for teachers and students to use it.
The speakers talked about the advantages of the new edition and accepted it as a gift for the new academic year.
