In accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan "Plans for admission to higher educational institutions, scientific institutions and organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan for doctoral and dissertation studies for 2024", 9 doctoral and 3 dissertation positions were allocated to the Institute of Geography for doctoral studies.

11 out of 22 applicants who submitted documents to the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan received a passing score in foreign language and philosophy and were admitted to exams in their specialty. The commission consisting of the following members accepted them in specialized subjects: Director of the Institute, Professor Zakir Eminov (chairman), Deputy Director, PhD in Geography Zaur Imrani, heads of departments, PhD in Geography Nariman Pashayev and PhD in Geography Museyib Yunusov, Scientific Secretary, PhD in Geography Zarnura Khamidova.

Among the 10 candidates who passed exams in 4 specialties, those who received the highest marks were selected. Of these, 3 were accepted for economic geography, 3 for historical geography, political and recreational geography, 1 for humanitarian geography and 7 for geoecology. The proposals are reviewed by the Academic Council of the Institute for approval of the topics and scientific supervisors of dissertations.
