The III international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was held at the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.Aliyev of MSE AR.

The event was organized by the Azerbaijan Geographical Society together with the Institute of Geography, the Universities of Tourism and Management and West Caspian, Guba branch of ADPU, Bursa Uludag (Turkey), Dagestan State Technical and Pedagogical University (Russia), National University of Uzbekistan, North Kazakhstan University named after M. Kozybaev, Institute of Geography of Georgia and the Russian Association of Social Geographers.

The Director General of the Institute of Geography, Professor Zakir Eminov, who opened the meeting with an introductory speech, welcomed the participants and introduced them to the main issues of the day. Explaining the main goal of the event, the head of the institute said that “modern climate change leads to an increase in temperature on the Earth's surface, a decrease in water resources, degradation of soil and vegetation cover, as well as changes in the territory of the economy and the structure of fields. Climate change, accompanied by global warming, leads to the loss of traditional resources, which requires the organization of economic, social, environmental and scientific-educational measures at the international level. Today's scientific conference is dedicated to COP29, which will be held in Azerbaijan”.

Associate Professor Zaur Imrani, Executive Director of the Institute of Geography, informed the participants about the organizational work of the event.

The event was attended by the Dean of the North Kazakhstan University named after Manash Kozybayev, Doctor of Economics Sergey Pashkov. Welcoming remarks were made by the Dean of the Faculty of Geography of BSU, Professor Medjal Gojamanov, and the Head of the Department of the Institute of Geography, Associate Professor Mirnukh Ismayilov.

Then the reports of the plenary session were heard. Doctors of Geographical Sciences, Professors Rza Mahmudov and Shovgi Geychaysky, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Honored Engineer Akhmed Mamedov made reports on the Importance of Earth Sciences in the Formation of Environmental Knowledge and Conducting Environmental Research, as well as on the topics of river flows analysis in the Karabakh region against the background of regional climate change, regulation of flow in the Gargarchay basin and efficient use of water resources.

On the second day of the event, the conference continued its work in sectional sessions.

The meetings discussed current regional problems of Azerbaijani cities, the impact of newly opened jobs on the economy, some hydronyms of Karabakh, the impact of mineral and thermal waters on health, the reduction of villages in the Guba-Khachmaz economic region and the role of migration in it, the problem of water supply in the Aghdam and Fizuli regions, the medical and geographical geography of Karabakh, the impact of the environmental situation on its condition and its role in the spread of diseases, the geography of oncological diseases in Azerbaijan, the impact of efficient land use on the sustainable economic development of the Kurdamir region, the study of the temperature regime in the eastern Zangezur economic region, etc.

The participants adopted a draft resolution following extensive discussions at the conference.
