Head of the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources of the Institute of Geography named after Acad. H. Aliyev of the MSEAR, Professor Rza Mahmudov became a participant in the program “Let’s not put it off until tomorrow” on the ITV channel.
Expressing gratitude to the ITV channel for touching upon such a topical issue as the problem of drinking water and the shortage of fresh water, the scientist noted that the emergence of water-related problems throughout history has been linked to the climate. According to him, the emergence of droughts or floods, the increase or decrease of water levels in rivers, are products of the climate.
Climate change and the emergence of water problems in the world have been known to scientists since the end of the last century, and today everyone knows about it. The second reason for the shortage of drinking water is population growth, and the third reason is the change in the quality and quantity of water. Here, it is also necessary to take into account the influence of natural losses and anthropogenic factors.
The professor spoke about the efficient use of our available water resources, water resource assessment. He shared his thoughts on the state of water resources in the liberated territories, the use of industrial water and water recycling, the work done in this area in our country.
