An event was held dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the birth of the former head of the Department of Demography and Geography of the Population of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H. Aliyev, MNOAR, the late PhD Nizami Eyyubov. The event was attended by employees of the IG, invited guests, as well as the son and grandchildren of the deceased.
Acting Director General of the Institute, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Zaur Imrani welcomed the participants and spoke about the scientist’s scientific activities. He noted that Nizami Eyyubov was one of the valuable scientists of Azerbaijan who made a significant contribution to the field of demography. In 1974, he graduated with honors from the Geography Department of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute and from 1975 until his death he worked at the Institute of Geography. In 1983, he defended his doctoral dissertation on “Socio-geographical problems of improving the settlement of the population of the Lesser Caucasus of the Azerbaijan SSR” and received the degree of Candidate of Geographical Sciences. From 1986 until his death, he headed the Department of Demography and Geography of the Population of the Institute of Geography.
In result of many years of geographical research, the scientist played an important role in the geographical distribution of the population of Azerbaijan, improving its socio-economic dynamics, constructive geography of Azerbaijan, and preparing fundamental monographs.
He is one of the authors and editors of the monograph "Problems of Population Settlement in Azerbaijan" (joint, 1988), the textbook "Economic and Social Geography of the Azerbaijan Republic" for the 8th grade of secondary school and its revised editions, the monographs "Constructive Geography of Azerbaijan" (vol. III), "Geography of the Azerbaijan Republic" (vol. II, III). He is the author of a geographical reference book, more than 180 scientific and popular science articles, geography programs for secondary and higher educational institutions, numerous teaching aids. Under his supervision, more than 10 scientific reports were written on the problems of demography and population geography.
Then, Doctor of Science, Head of the Department of Demography and Geography of Population Etibar Badalov spoke about the scientific and social activities of N. Eyubov, the value of his work, caring attitude towards employeesduring his work in the department, and also showed a video prepared by the department, reflecting the life and work of the scientist.
The event was attended by the head of the department of BSU, professor Shovgi Geychayli, heads of the department of the Institute, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Nariman Pashayev, PhD Habil Haqverdiev, PhD, Associate Professor Mirnukh Ismailov and Professor Rza Makhmudov. Chairman of the Trade Union Kamran Ramazanly, scientific workers - Tofik Gurbanov, Rafik Ismailov, Luiza Salaeva and others shared their memories and opinions about the geographer. They spoke about Nizami Eyyubov’s activities as a demographer and his positive aspects as a person, and also spoke about his direct contribution to the progress and nationalization of geographical science in Azerbaijan through his scientific works and approaches. They noted that he played an indispensable role in increasing the interest of schoolchildren in geography, in better understanding Azerbaijan as a geographical place and instilling in them a sense of love for the Motherland.
At the end of the event, Nizami Eyyubov's son shared interesting facts about his father and, on behalf of his family, expressed deep gratitude to the staff and management of the Institute of Geography for organizing the event, as well as for preserving the memory of his father.
