Employees of the Department of Geoinformatics and Cartography of the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.Aliyev of the AR MSE - junior researcher Nazim Gerayli and engineer Elvin Soltanov - conducted field research in the Guba-Khachmaz economic region from July 21 to 31.

The aim of the study was to examine the hydrological and ecological state of rivers in the specified territory, including changes in water content in the upper and lower reaches of rivers, the morphological and ecological state of river beds, anthropogenic impact on rivers (agriculture, household waste, etc.), water quality and biodiversity indicators.

Based on initial observations, the researchers found that the river's upper reaches retained its clean water and natural flow, while the lower reaches were experiencing increased problems such as pollution and narrowing of the riverbed, as well as artificial interventions in some sections of the river and changes to the landscape near the source. The researchers noted that the results of the study will play an important role in developing a basis for sustainable water management and environmental protection measures in the region.
