The Institute of Geography named after acad. H. Aliyev of the AR MSE held an event titled "Victory Day – A Page of Pride for Our People," dedicated to the 5th anniversary of our glorious victory. The event was attended by institute staff, including Professor Hikmet Babaoglu, Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and board member of the New Azerbaijan Party, and Professor Habil Gurbanov, Chairman of the United Trade Union Committee of Scientific Institutions of the AR MSE.
At the beginning of the event, participants observed a moment of silence in memory of the sons and daughters of Azerbaijan who died for their homeland. Welcoming the institute's staff and guests, Acting Director General of the Institute of Geography, PhD in geography, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani congratulated them on the upcoming Victory Day. He noted that November 8 is a day of national pride for our people, a celebration of historical justice and international law, and a day of restoration of our country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Thanks to this great victory, justice was restored, and our people honorably fulfilled their historical mission. As a result of the anti-terrorist operation conducted in September 2023 under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the sovereignty of our state was fully ensured throughout our country. The liberation of our lands allowed us to conduct geographical research in these territories. The vast majority of our researchers were in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, gathering the necessary information.
Professor Hikmet Babaoghlu delivered a report on the topic "Historic Victory is the Triumph of Our National Will." He noted that achieving victory is possible thanks to national strength. Azerbaijan suffered defeats for 200 years and emerged from this state in the last 30. However, the Azerbaijani people possess such high moral qualities that they were able to emerge victorious from this situation. Hikmet Babaoghlu emphasized that we gather on Victory Day not simply to celebrate, but also to report to ourselves, and we must think, as the President said, how we should act to deepen and expand our victory. The speaker also spoke about the "internal enemies" trying to sow chaos in the country and set it back, about the officials who are leading it to corruption, and about the great courage, determination, and foresight of the country's President, who has made the right decisions in the fight against them.
Professor Habil Gurbanov congratulated the meeting participants on Victory Day and the 30th anniversary of the Constitution. He recounted his speech on Victory Day at the recent international forum in Belgrade, attended by scholars from 32 countries, and brought to the attention of those present the position of the West and international organizations regarding double standards towards Azerbaijan. Speaking about the power of the President's diplomacy, H. Gurbanov noted that, as a result of his policies, Armenians who had lived in Karabakh for 200 years voluntarily left our territory. He noted that it is the duty of scholars and intellectuals to convey the truth about Azerbaijan to the international community. Emphasizing that he had fought in the First Karabakh War, the professor explained the reasons for the defeat in that war.
In his speech, Kamran Ramazanli, chairman of the institute's trade union, spoke about Turkey's role in achieving victory and its moral support for Azerbaijan. He noted that "the development of the Organization of Turkic-Speaking States will strengthen both diplomatically and scientifically, the number of our victories and successes will increase in all areas, and we will celebrate this victory on a larger scale—in every corner of the Turkic world." Department heads, PhDs in geography Abil Akhverdiyev and Anvar Aliyev, shared their thoughts on Victory Day. In his speech, A. Aliyev proposed confiscating the wealth accumulated by corrupt officials and donating it to the families of martyrs, veterans, and all those in need.
