On November 13–14, the 4th International Scientific and Practical Conference on "Modern Problems of Geography: Integration of Science and Education" was held at the H.A. Aliyev Institute of Geography of the AR MSE. The conference was held to commemorate the proclamation of 2025 as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Geography as well as the "Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty" in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the conference, a field trip to the Shemakha and Ismailly districts of the country was organized for foreign guests. The tour was led by staff from the Landscape Science and Landscape Planning Department, including Associate Professor I.Ya. Kuchinskaya, Associate Professor E.D. Kerimova, and technician A.F. Mishakov.
The itinerary included a visit to the city of Shemakha, where guests visited the ancient Juma Mosque, the Pirkuli Observatory, the village of Demirchi, and the ancient center of copperware production, the village of Lahij. Lahij copper embossing is included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Guests from Russia, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Turkey learned about the natural features of the region, the manifestations of mudflows and landslides, as well as the landscapes and geomorphological features of the region.
Participants conducted a detailed examination of the Pirsaatchay, Girdimanchay, and Akhsuchay river valleys, where they were able to observe modern geomorphodynamic processes and characteristic landforms.
