The opening ceremony of preparatory classes for the iGeo International Geography Olympiad in a hybrid format was held at the Institute of Geography named after acad. H. Aliyev of the ARMSE under the chairmanship of Acting Director General, PhD, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani.
The event was attended by pupils, their parents, and geography teachers who will be participating in the classes.
Z.Imrani noted that the "iGeo Azerbaijan Team" of the Institute of Geography and the Azerbaijan Geographical Society always support their team and attach great importance to the participation of schoolchildren in international Olympiads.
Project manager and winner of the "Development and Innovation in Education" grant competition, Yashar Seyidaliev, gave a presentation and spoke in detail about the project, the e-Geo Olympiads, the grant competition winners, the IX Grant Competition held this year in Thailand, and the participation of our schoolchildren.
It was noted that the International Geographical Olympiad, organized by the International Geographical Union (IGU), which unites geographers from countries around the world under the auspices of the UN, is the world's highest geography competition for high school students and is held annually in August. Young people aged 16-19 who demonstrate the best results in a national geography competition are eligible to participate.
In conclusion, the project director emphasized that geographers have always played a special role in preparing schoolchildren for this international event and expressed gratitude to the Institute of Geography and the Republican Geographical Society for their support. Department heads—Doctor of Philosophy Mirnukh Ismayilov, Doctor of Philosophy Abil Akhverdiev, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Rza Makhmudov, Doctor of Sciences Chingiz Gulaliev, and others—expressed in their speeches their full support for the students preparing for the International Geography Olympiad and wished them success and victory in the international scientific competition.
