The Role of Landscape-Ecological Framework and Green Corridors in the Development of Baku City Apr 08, 2026 | 10:04 / INTERVIEWS

The formation of a landscape-ecological framework, along with the development of green and hybrid corridors, plays a significant role in ensuring ecological sustainability within the ecosystem in the future development dynamics of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the city of Baku. The landscape-ecological framework is one of the key elements in the organization and management of modern urban planning and landscape architectural design.

This was stated by Associate Professor Mirnuh Ismayilov, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, in an interview with AZERTAC. The scientist elaborated on the scientific foundations of the spatial structure of the ecological framework, its role in ecosystem services, and its main structural components. He noted that this system contributes to maintaining natural balance in urban areas, ensuring the efficient management of green spaces, and minimizing ecological risks.

The scholar also emphasized issues related to population growth, increasing construction density, and the resulting environmental challenges. He highlighted that scientific approaches have been proposed to improve the efficient organization of urban space, preserve biodiversity, and enhance environmental quality based on the principles of sustainable development.
