Elnur Səfərov, Head of the International Cooperation Sector at the Institute of Geography, representative of the Scientific Research Department of the IDEA Public Union, PhD in Geography, participated in the “Create a Green World! – 2” eco-innovation hackathon as a mentor, panelist, and jury member.
On 26–27 April 2026, the “Create a Green World! – 2” eco-innovation hackathon for students of higher education institutions was held, jointly organized by ASAN Service and the IDEA Public Union. The aim of the project was to promote young people’s innovative and technological approaches to solving environmental problems and to create opportunities for developing practical digital solutions. A total of 16 teams (64 participants) took part in the hackathon.
On the first day of the hackathon, participants attended training sessions on design thinking, idea generation, and technological solutions to environmental problems. In the second half of the day, teams began developing their project concepts.
On 26 April, Elnur Səfərov, Head of the International Cooperation Sector at the Institute of Geography under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and representative of the IDEA Public Union Scientific Research Department, worked with teams as a mentor. He supported them in shaping their approaches to environmental issues, scientifically substantiating their ideas, and guiding the development of their prototypes.
The second day of the hackathon began with a panel discussion titled “Sustainable Development Goals and Azerbaijan’s Green Future.” As a speaker, Elnur Səfərov delivered a presentation on “Sustainability of Water, Energy, and Ecosystems in the Caspian Region,” providing insights into environmental management, sustainable use of water and energy resources, ecosystem conservation, and the impacts of climate change in the region.
After the panel session, teams presented their prototypes to the jury. As a jury member, Elnur Səfərov evaluated the projects based on their level of innovation, practical applicability in addressing environmental challenges, and sustainability impact.
At the end of the event, Elnur Səfərov was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for his contribution to environmental awareness, support for youth innovation initiatives, and mentoring activities.
The hackathon, supported by ASAN Service and the IDEA Public Union, made a significant contribution to the development of environmental innovation culture in the country and to enhancing young people’s knowledge and skills in green technologies.
