Said Safarov, Head of the Caspian Sea Geography Laboratory of the Institute of Geography under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor, paid a visit to Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, on April 23–26, 2026.
Within the framework of the visit, he took part in a meeting of the Azerbaijan–Kazakhstan bilateral Working Group established to investigate the causes of the Caspian Sea level decline, develop scenarios for sea level fluctuations, and elaborate adaptation measures. The meeting was organized within the framework of the Regional Environmental Summit (RES-2026) held in Astana.
During the meeting held on April 24, Said Safarov actively participated in the discussions and shared his views on the observed sea level changes in the Caspian Sea as well as scientific approaches in this direction.
During the visit, an exchange of views was held with Kazakh colleagues on the problems related to the Caspian Sea level. At the same time, a preliminary agreement was reached on conducting joint scientific research in this field and publishing the obtained results in reputable international journals.
