Researchers of the Institute of Geography under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan have carried out field studies aimed at investigating the agro-bioecological characteristics of soils in the Ganja-Dashkasan Economic Region.
The study focused on the mountain gray-brown soils widespread in the Agjakand settlement of the Goranboy district. During the expedition, soil samples were collected to assess the agro-bioecological condition of the area.
The research was conducted with the participation of the staff of the Institute’s “Soil Fertility” Laboratory: Associate Professors and PhDs in Agricultural Sciences Yegana Manafova and Khuraman Zeynalova, researcher Elnara Abasova, and leading engineers Sabina Rahimova and Nurida Nabiyeva.
During the fieldwork, soil samples were taken from the genetic horizons of virgin soil profiles, as well as from the plowed layer (0–30 cm depth) of agricultural fields cultivated with cereal crops and tobacco. The collected samples are planned to undergo laboratory analyses to determine their agrophysical and agrochemical properties.
The main objective of the study is to evaluate the fertility indicators, agroecological condition, and agricultural suitability of mountain gray-brown soils. The results are expected to contribute to the sustainable use of soil resources in the region, the preservation of soil fertility, and the development of scientifically based agrotechnical recommendations.
