On June 19, 2026, a scientific seminar dedicated to the discussion of the dissertation titled “Investigation of Channel Processes in the Rivers of Shirvan” by Anar Nuriyev, a doctoral candidate of the Department of Hydrometeorology at Baku State University, was held at the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the seminar, the candidate delivered a comprehensive presentation on the main directions of the research, the results obtained, the methodological approaches employed, and the scientific and practical significance of the dissertation. The presentation highlighted the formation of channel processes in the rivers of the Shirvan region, the influence of geomorphological and hydrometeorological factors on river channel dynamics, the changes caused by anthropogenic activities in river systems in the modern period, as well as the results of field observations and statistical analyses.
The official reviewers of the dissertation, Matanat Musayeva, Associate Professor of the Department of History, Geography and Methodology at Sumgait State University, and Rashail Ismayilov, Associate Professor and Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Water and Melioration Scientific Research Institute, presented their scientific evaluations of the research. They emphasized the relevance of the dissertation topic, noted the scientific and practical significance of the obtained results, and offered a number of recommendations.
The discussion was also attended by Rza Mahmudov, Head of the Laboratory of Land Hydrology and Doctor of Geographical Sciences at the Institute of Geography; Irada Aliyeva, Head of the Department of Hydrometeorology at Baku State University; Movlud Teymurov, Associate Professor at the Institute of Geography; as well as other seminar participants. They actively engaged in the discussion, raised questions concerning various aspects of the dissertation, conducted scientific debates, and shared their views and suggestions regarding the future development of the research.
At the conclusion of the seminar, it was emphasized that the dissertation meets a satisfactory scientific standard, addresses a relevant scientific problem, and complies with contemporary academic requirements. It was therefore considered appropriate to recommend the dissertation for submission to the next stage of the academic evaluation process.
