From 19 to 22 June 2026, Azerbaijani students competing in the II International Open Geography Olympiad, which brought together 125 participants from 25 countries, won one silver and two bronze medals. Maryam Guluzada was awarded the silver medal, while Yahya Ahmad and Muhammad Abdulla earned the bronze medals.

From 28 June to 3 July 2026, at the 12th European Geography Olympiad, attended by 100 students from 13 countries, two Azerbaijani students were awarded bronze medals. The bronze medals were won by Muhammad Abdulla and Yahya Ahmad.

Researchers of the Institute of Geography also played an active role in preparing the students for these international competitions. During the training program, the Institute's scientists provided not only fundamental geographical knowledge but also delivered lectures on topics that reflect contemporary global priorities, including climate change, sustainable development, digital technologies, tourism, synergetic analysis, and other relevant fields.
