Based on the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Standards for Vibration and Noise Pollution that Negatively Affect the Environment and Human Health" and the World Health Organization's warning that air pollution is one of the most serious environmental problems in Azerbaijan, researchers of the Institute of Geography under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan carried out scientific research.

From 20 to 24 July, the Head of the Laboratory of Geographical Ecology, Associate Professor A. Aliyev (PhD in Geography), together with Associate Professor F. Khalilov (PhD in Geography), T. İslamzada (PhD in Geography), and Junior Researcher R. Huseynov, conducted a field expedition within the framework of the research report entitled "The Eastern Part of the Southern Slope of the Greater Caucasus and Adjacent Areas (Shamakhi–Ismayilli Districts)".

The main objective of the study was to investigate the region's ecogeographical conditions, assess vibration and noise pollution, evaluate the factors affecting air quality, and map environmental risks. During the expedition, field observations were carried out, and maps prepared using geoinformation technologies were verified under field conditions. Soil and vegetation samples were collected to assess environmental pollution in urban areas. The collected samples are currently being prepared for laboratory analysis based on various parameters. The research is currently continuing under laboratory (office-based) conditions.
