Employees of Institute of Geography named after acad. H.Aliyev continue their scientific activities at home in connection with pandemic of Covid 19, as well as on behalf of acad. Ramiz Mekhtiyev, the president of ANAS, and Ramiz Mammadov- director of the IG.

Scientists and specialists conduct research in accordance with the quarantine conditions, remotely contacting relevant institutions and organizations, if possible, receiving the necessary information.

They prepare electronic reports for distance scientific workshops on current issues: head of the deptm of Landscape Planning, PhD Mirnukh Ismayilov about the difficulties in successfully conducting the Clean hands campaign in Azerbaijan in condition of water lack; Anvar Aliyev, head of the deptm of Ecography on the state of the environmental situation in the country under quarantine; Yashar Nasibli, senior researcher from the deptm of Geoinformatics and Cartography, in the field of developing modern digital map databases using modern software for technology of geographical information systems. Research is underway on other issues of the day. 

Employees also prepare articles and keep in touch with the media that contact them.

An example of this is the interview of Mirnukh Ismayilov to the site of the Sputnik news agency about water problems; PhD in biology Sh. Aliyev to the agency Azertaj on the topic “The role of medical leeches in the development of medical tourism in Azerbaijan; Yashar Nasibli, senior researcher from the deptm of Geoinformatics and Cartography, in the field of developing modern digital map databases to the channel ITV.

Scientists continue work on the three-volume “Geography and Ethnicity of the Turkic World” and intend to complete the last volume. Prepared articles are checked online, edited and prepared for publication. They are also working on international projects.

We would like to note that from the first day IG joined the campaign of the WHO “Clean Hands”. Geographers pass the baton to each other and continue the campaign on Facebook.

In early April, distance learning began in three specialties with 5 masters, 3 of whom are in their first year, and two in their second year.

In accordance with the instructions of the ANAS leadership, from the beginning of March, the IG website gsaz.az publishes, printed materials that are important for informing the public with reference to the ANAS science.az website.

The activities of the Institute of Geography during quarantine are covered through the gsaz.az website and Facebook and are monitored by the Institute leadership.
