The presentation of the book “Memories of Academician Ramiz Mammadov” took place at the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.A.Aliyev.
The event was attended by employees of the Institute of Geography, colleagues of the scientist, students, family members, etc.
A moment of silence honored the memory of the academician. The General Director of the Institute, Doctor of Geography Zakir Eminov spoke about the place of R. Mammadov in the history of science, his role in the development of geographical science and his contribution to the science of Azerbaijan, his connection with the Caspian Sea, his teaching activities and work at the Institute of Geography, and said, that Ramiz Mammadov was an ascetic of science. Despite the difficulties that arose in the first years of independence, he soon returned the former glory to the science of geography. Although he was mainly engaged in the exploration of the Caspian Sea, he constantly worked for the development of geography in general, being the author of dozens of maps and monographs, hundreds of scientific articles. His books have been published in the USA, Moscow, Brussels, Tehran, Tbilisi, Canada and other countries. Under his leadership, the three-volume "Geography of the Azerbaijan Republic" was awarded the State Prize.
Speaking about the foreign relations of the academician, the director of the institute noted that, as the scientist himself said, he is perhaps the only researcher in the history of science in Azerbaijan who sailed and worked in all 4 world oceans, including the Bermuda Triangle. He emphasized that R. Mammadov is the leader and co-leader of 20 international projects, and that he is proud as an Azerbaijani who has won competitions in which scientists from advanced countries participate.
Zakir Eminov spoke about the work of the late academician in training young personnel, about the use of modern technical means in conducting scientific research and compiling maps, about his activities as president of the Azerbaijan Geographical Society. “The works of the scientist will benefit the younger generations for hundreds of years”, the head of the institute suggested that the participants of the event watch one of several short films about the scientist.
After the screening of the film, the participants of the event shared their memories of Academician Ramiz Mammadov.
In conclusion, Khasiyat khanum, the wife of the deceased, on behalf of the family members expressed her gratitude to the leadership of the institute for organizing the event.
