In Tashkent, the heads of the geographical societies of Azerbaijan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on the establishment of the Geographical Council of Turkic States (TCGS).

The main goal is to strengthen cooperation between the Turkic-speaking countries in the areas of innovation, ecology, tourism, cultural and humanitarian activities.

At the event, our country was represented by Mirnukh Ismayilov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Geographical Society (AGO), Head of the Department of the Institute of Geography named after H. Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Kh.Rzazade, Press Secretary of the AGS, Head of the Department of International and Public Relations of the Institute of Geography.

The moderator of the meeting, Deputy General Secretary of the Turkic Council Mirvokhid Azimov and the head of the Geographical Society of Uzbekistan Oybek Norinbaev, in their welcoming speech, stated that the main task of the GCTS is to carry out joint activities in the field of geography, local history and related sciences among the Turkic-speaking countries, including the wide dissemination of scientific achievements in this area. They noted that it is necessary to join efforts to identify and actively participate in the elimination of environmental problems.

Then, representatives of other countries who spoke noted that the newly established council will play an important role in promoting the rich natural and cultural heritage of Turkic geography, deepening people-to-people relations, sharing knowledge and experience in the field of science, education and innovation, and developing cooperation in the field of tourism. Orman Nurbaev, Chairman of the Board of the Republican public association "KazaqGeography", expressed his gratitude to the participants for supporting the initiative of Kazakhstan to establish the Council.

According to the conclusions of the Constituent Assembly, the head of the Uzbekistan Geographical Society, Oybek Norinbayev, was elected the chairman of the Geographical Council of Turkic States for a period of 3 years.
