A group of employees of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov visited the Institute of Geography named after academician H.Aliyev.
The General Director of the Institute, Professor Zakir Eminov, welcomed the guests and introduced them to the activities of the Institute of Geography and its leading scientists.
Professor Mikhail Viktorovich Slipenchuk, head of the department of rational environmental management of the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University, made a presentation of the books “Columbus of the 20th Century” and “Andrey Kapitsa”, of which he is a co-author. These books, presented at the 9th Baku International Book Fair, tell about the life, scientific, social and organizational activities of Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Andrey Petrovich Kapitsa, who for many years worked as the head of the department of the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University, and chairman of the Far Eastern Scientific Center. He is the son of the famous physicist and academician Pyotr Kapitsa. In his speech, the author spoke about the role of A. Kapitsa in the study of Antarctica and even called him the Columbus of the twentieth century.
Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Chingiz Ismailov, who took part in the event, noted that the first map of Antarctica was compiled by the Arab geographer and traveler Ali Mansuri Al-Idrisi in the 12th century.
Head of Department, Institute of Geography, Professor Rza Mahmudov, Doctor of Geography Stara Tarikhazar, Head of Department, Doctor of Geological Sciences Elena Taghiyeva, head of department, Ph.D. Habil Hagverdiev, researcher Zulfali Rasulov and others expressed their opinions on the topic and informed the guests about the work done at the institute related to Antarctica.
In conclusion, General Director Zakir Eminov thanked M. Slipenchuk for the interesting report and the books that he donated to the institute.
