Professor Rza Mahmudov, head of the department of hydrology and water resources at the Institute of Geography named after academician H. Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, gave an interview to the ARB channel about global water shortages.
Ongoing global climate change—increasing warming and increasing drought—is exacerbating the problem of water scarcity. Currently, more than 40% of the world's population faces a drinking water problem. As throughout the world, surface and groundwater resources are declining in Azerbaijan. Use of fresh water in agriculture leads to water scarcity.
According to a hydrologist commenting on these issues, if inefficient water consumption continues, Azerbaijan will face very serious problems in water supply. Taking preventive measures to improve the population's water needs, reusing water used in industry, using water-resistant plants in landscaping, using process water for washing cars, etc. It is important to implement such measures.
