Professor Rza Mahmudov, Head of the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources of the Institute of Geography named after Academician H. Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, took part in the International Conference “Baku Water Week”, organized by the State Water Agency of Azerbaijan from March 12 to 14.

The event was attended by representatives of relevant international organizations, as well as numerous scientists and specialists from scientific and government institutions of Azerbaijan, the purpose of which was to discuss the further development of this field in the country, existing difficulties and solutions. Chairman of the State Water Agency of Azerbaijan Zaur Mikailov, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mamedov, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Tagiyeva and others spoke at the opening of the conference.

Professor Rza Mahmudov made a report at the third meeting of the expert group on the topic “Regional climate changes in Azerbaijan and their impact on river water resources.” In his report, the scientist presented detailed information on changes in average long-term temperatures in Azerbaijan over the past 30 years in different altitude intervals and different geographical regions and its impact on river water resources based on actual observation data. The report aroused great interest among the participants. Climatologist, Rector of Canakkale University (Türkiye), prof. Cuneyt Erenoglu and prof. Vedat Chalyshkan gladly accepted the offer of joint cooperation in this area.

It should be noted that employees of the Institute of Geography - General Director Professor Zakir Eminov, Executive Director Associate Professor Zaur Imrani and Professor Rza Mahmudov took part in the International Water Exhibition before the conference as part of the International Water Exhibition organized at the Baku Expo Center. They took a memorable photo in front of the “Baku Water Week” and the stand of the Institute of Geography. Fundamental books published by the Institute in recent years, selected in accordance with the theme of the exhibition, were exhibited, including the three-volume “Geography of the Azerbaijan Republic” and “Geography and Ethnicity of the Turkic World”, the two-volume “Geography of Nakhchivan”, monographs and maps. The books aroused great interest among the exhibition participants.
