Members of the Azerbaijan Geographical Society (AGS), together with researchers from the Institute of Geography named after academician H. Aliyev of the MNOAR, met with students of the secondary school No. 1 named after I. Nasimi in Naftalan in connection with the announcement of 2024 as the "Year of Green World Solidarity".

The event dedicated to COP29 was held within the framework of the project “Ecological state of Karabakh” of the Azerbaijan Geographical Society, which won the grant competition announced by the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The guests of the school director Fuad Zamanov, who opened the event with an introductory speech, were the project manager, associate professor, PhD Mirnukh Ismailov, project trainers PhD Gulnar Hajiyeva and Emil Jabrayilov, project expert, associate professor, PhD Saida Zeynalova, who were introduced to the participants of the event. They explained the importance of the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, i.e. COP 29, which will be held this year in our country, and also promised to provide information on environmental problems caused by climate change.

Project Manager M. Ismayilov gave a broad explanation of the problems caused by climate change; spoke about the importance of COP29 and the environmental problems of Karabakh. G. Hajiyeva informed the students about the environmental situation in Karabakh and gave detailed information about the ecocide carried out in specially protected natural areas that existed in Karabakh during the occupation.

Jabrayilov spoke on the topic "Ecogeographical consequences of climate change" telling about climate change, the greenhouse effect and its ecological consequences. S. Zeynalova gave information on the necessary measures to protect the environment and discussed the topic with students. The event provided answers to numerous questions from students.

In conclusion, the school director Fuad Zamanov expressed gratitude to the representatives of the AGO and IG for organizing the event.
