A field expedition was conducted to the Atachay and Garachay basins according to the memorandum of cooperation in the field of science and education, signed between the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Grozny State Oil Technical University named after Academician M.D. Millionshchikov of the Russian Federal State Budgetary Institution of Higher Education and the Dagestan Federal Research Center.

The event, held within the framework of the project “Dynamics of the geoecological situation of the mountain river basins of the North-East Caucasus, Azerbaijan and Iran in the context of climate change and increased anthropogenic load”, was attended by leading researchers of the Institute of Geography from Azerbaijan, PhDs, associate professors Elina Karimova and Irina Kuchinskaya, associate professor, head of the department , PhD in agricultural sciences Ismayil Guliyev.

 The aim of the study is to determine changes in the geoecological state of landscapes in the basins of medium and small rivers of the Caspian Sea basin against the background of climate change and increased anthropogenic activity. The work includes a joint comprehensive study of the Karachay and Atachay river basins.

During field research, Azerbaijani specialists informed their Russian colleagues about the physical-geographical, ecological, and socio-economic characteristics of the region.

At the next stage, soil, plant and water samples taken from the selected areas will be analyzed in scientific laboratories in Azerbaijan and Russia.
