Leading researcher of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H.Aliyev of the MSE, PhD Rovshan Kerimov made a presentation on the topic of “Transboundary Pollution and Water Resources Management in the Kura and Araz Rivers” at the COP-29 event held in Baku.

He made a report on the pollution of the Kura and Araz Rivers in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey and Iran; he spoke about the sources polluting river waters with heavy metals and chemical compounds, as well as the impact of reservoirs built and planned for commissioning in neighboring countries on the water resources of these rivers and the degree of their pollution.

R.Kerimov drew attention to the pollution of the Kura and Araz Rivers and their tributaries with domestic wastewater, industrial waste, and pesticides used in agricultural fields. The researcher noted that there is still no trilateral agreement between the three Caucasian countries on water management and use. And the signing of such a document in the future is necessary from the point of view of protecting water and other ecosystems.
