A hybrid format of the seminar of the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi was held at the Institute of Geography named after akad. H.Aliyev.
The seminar was attended by Rashid Fataliyev, leading researcher of the paleogeography department of the Institute of Geography, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Associate Professor, author of the book "Meteorites, Astroblemes, the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijani Folklore".
In his speech, the speaker gave general information about the importance of a comprehensive study of meteorites, asteroids, the consequences they cause - craters and astroblemes, as well as meteorites that have fallen on the territory of Azerbaijan so far and their characteristics. The speaker emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in scientific research. He also suggested that some idioms in Azerbaijani folklore are associated with celestial bodies and meteorites.
Fataliyev proposed developing an interdisciplinary project for joint study of the hypothesis of the asteroid origin of the depression, as opposed to existing ideas regarding the formation of the South Caspian depression and the very thick sedimentary layer accumulated there. He suppose, a new complex approach can allow revising existing ideas regarding the eternal problem of the Caspian Sea (transgression and regression), the formation of oil fields, the eruptions of mud volcanoes and, possibly, obtain more accurate results.
