The Institute of Geography named after аcad. H. Aliyev MSEAR held an event dedicated to the International Civil Defense Day - March 1.

First, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims of Khojaly and the courageous martyrs who gave their lives for their homeland.

The acting Director General, PhD Associate Professor Zaur Imrani spoke in detail about the purpose and significance of celebrating this day and said that by the decision of the General Assembly of the International Civil Defense Organization, World Civil Defense Day has been celebrated in more than 50 member countries of this organization since March 1, 1972. The goal of the International Civil Defense Organization is to disseminate experience in the field of protecting civilians, train and improve civil defense personnel, and organize mutual assistance between states during natural disasters and major accidents. Azerbaijan has been closely cooperating with this authoritative organization since 1993 and takes an active part in all its events.

the Chief of the Civil Defense Staff Namazali Mustafayev having emphasized that the Institute of Geography annually celebrates March 1 in accordance with the plan of events, noted that ensuring the protection of the population and its readiness in the field of protection from emergency situations is the primary task of civil defense agencies. N. Mustafayev briefly presented information on the new structure of the Institute's MM forces in 2025 and their activities in connection with the transition of the Institute to the MSE system. He also assessed as positive the fact that geographers regularly inform the population about man-made events through the media, and also answer questions of interest to participants.

The head of the department, PhD Solmaz Rzayeva, chief researcher Stara Tarikhazar and computer operator Aida Aslanova spoke on the subject and expressed their opinions.
