The "Explanatory Dictionary of Ancient Lands and Toponyms of the Karabakh Economic Region" prepared by the Institute of Geography named after Academician H. Aliyev of the MSEAR has been published.
The author of the monograph is Dr. Natig Babayev, Senior Researcher of the Department of History of Geographical Thought and Toponymy, Editor-in-Chief is Dr. Zakir Eminov, Scientific Editor, Leading Researcher, Dr. Mahira Abbasova.
The first part of the two-volume book devotes much space to the toponymy of the ancient lands of Karabakh. The main stages and main aspects of the formation of the Azerbaijani lands are revealed, important and pressing problems of settlements and movements are studied. In the second part of the book, which contains an explanatory dictionary of toponyms existing in the Karabakh economic region, geographical names of the territory of Karabakh are collected and studied, toponymic patterns are defined, cases of reflection of local geographical features (conditions) in toponymy are revealed, as well as scientifically substantiated facts.
In addition to the fact that the book is a genuine source for the systematic study of toponyms of the Karabakh region, it also has political, practical and scientific significance in solving problematic issues.
The book can be used in conducting scientific research, as well as in the preparation of textbooks and teaching materials, in the promotion of toponymic knowledge, as well as in teaching toponymic knowledge in higher educational institutions.
