On June 2-3, 2025, Acting Director General of the Institute of Geography, PhD Zaur Imrani and Scientific Secretary, PhD, Associate Professor Saida Zeynalova took part in the event dedicated to the year "Cultural Capital of the CIS - 2025" in the city of Lachin.

On the first day of the event, a concert program, an art gallery, and national dances performed by artists from the CIS countries were demonstrated. On the second day, scientific reports by scientists from the CIS countries (Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan) were heard. Opening the event with an introductory speech, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli informed the participants about the natural and economic potential of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, and also expressed gratitude to the head of state for special attention and care for this region, which is experiencing a new period of development. Then the speeches followed.

PhD, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani made a report on the topic "Tourism and Recreation Potential of Karabakh". In the presentation, the participants of the event were provided with information about natural monuments, their characteristics, evaluation criteria, and methods of certification of natural monuments. Z. Imrani provided information about the geological, geomorphological, hydrological, floristic and faunistic monuments of Karabakh, spoke about specially protected areas and their tourist significance. Tourist routes based on natural monuments were shown. At the end of the presentation, he presented a 1:100,000 scale map reflecting the tourist and recreational potential of Karabakh.

The aim of the study by candidate of geographical sciences, associate professor Saida Zeynalova, who made a report on the topic "Dynamics of modern landscapes of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur", was to identify patterns of differentiation of modern landscape complexes and assess the ecological state of the studied region. As a result of the research conducted in 10 main areas in the altitude range from 500 to 1200 m, a map of modern landscapes of the region was compiled at a scale of 1:100,000. In addition, a map of the ecological framework of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur was presented, which reflects the core of the ecological framework, ecological corridors and buffer zones in the territories where the research was conducted. A commemorative photo was taken at the end of the event.
