A geographer gave an interview about a cable line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea Sep 03, 2025 | 12:09 / IMPORTANT EVENTS

"Laying a fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea requires a global effort. This line is not only a modern communications network but also a guarantee of continuity. The main advantage of a fiber-optic communication line laid along the bottom of the Caspian Sea is that it acts as a telecommunications bridge connecting Asia and Europe."

These words were expressed in an interview with the website "Informator.az" by Associate Professor Zaur Imrani, Executive Director of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H. Aliyev of the AR MSE.

The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the installation of a fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea will be completed in 2025 due to the ecological state of the Caspian Sea. According to Z. Imrani, who commented on this issue, "In the modern period, the receipt and transmission of information is considered the initial pyramid of socio-economic development. From this perspective, the installation of a fiber-optic cable line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea will increase the capacity of digital infrastructure in the region of both Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan."

The institute's director, who also drew attention to the fluctuations in the Caspian Sea's water level and environmental problems, emphasized that a number of environmental issues are becoming increasingly pronounced. He noted that the Caspian's current problems are linked to global warming, natural disasters, the construction of new reservoirs by Caspian states, and so on. These issues negatively impact the Caspian Sea's ecosystem, leading to the destruction of its living world.
