The staff of the Department of Geomorphology and Natural Risks at the Institute of Geography named after H.Aliyev of AR MSE—Senior Researcher Sevinj Mamieva, Leading Researcher Samira Abushova, and Junior Researcher Shahla Ismayilova—conducted fieldwork from September 11 to 20, in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions.
The purpose of the visit was to assess the geomorphological conditions of the area, changes in relief due to rural areas and agricultural lands, road construction, and the state of the environment in accordance with the annual work plan.
Information was collected on the road network built in the Zangilan district, the city of Lachin, and adjacent villages, the direct impact of newly established villages and towns on the relief, and the distribution and formation of factors that cause natural disasters (landslides, floods, avalanches, mudslides, etc.).
During the expedition, the researchers observed changes in the relief of the city of Lachin and adjacent villages up to an altitude of 1,947 meters above sea level, as well as the relief of newly established settlements in the cities of Shusha, Khankendi, and Aghdam.
