A meeting was held between the Institute of Geography named after Academician H. Aliyev of the AR MSE and the Research Institute of Water Resources of the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan.
The event was attended by the heads of departments of the Research Institute of Water Resources and Land Reclamation, as well as the heads of departments of the Institute of Geography, Professor Amir Aliyev and Professor Rza Makhmudov, researchers from the Department of Hydrology and Climate, and others.
After welcoming the guests, Acting Director General Zaur Imrani, PhD, Associate Professor, informed the participants about the agenda. He noted that the main objective was to discuss the practical opportunities for cooperation in the development and application of artificial precipitation technologies for the implementation of the national strategy.
Nazar Ismailzade, Head of the Land Reclamation Research Department, emphasized that the topics discussed at the event are in line with the goals of the "National Strategy for the Efficient Use of Water Resources," approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 10, 2024. It was noted that this strategic document places particular emphasis on the country's measures to protect water resources, improve their management, and utilize innovative technologies.
Nazrin Mamedova, Senior Advisor of the International Relations Department, presented a report on the work being carried out at the Research Institute of Water Management and Land Reclamation to develop artificial precipitation technologies, the role and importance of artificial precipitation in agriculture, forest fire prevention, water resources management, and more.
She gaved an information on artificial precipitation technologies, international experience in this field, climatic parameters, and the selection of suitable territories for their implementation, and emphasized that in Azerbaijan, the northern and central parts of the Shirvan sloping plain in the Kura-Araz lowland and the Karabakh zone have been selected for this purpose.
The meeting also addressed issues such as expected risks, surface water accumulation, rainwater use, aquifer formation, and more.
Following this discussion, it was decided that the Institute of Geography would assist the Research Institute of Water Management and Land Reclamation in selecting the site and would prepare and submit a map of the site, indicating its physical and geographical features, hydrological, and climatic conditions.
The meeting also laid the groundwork for the signing of a memorandum on future cooperation.
