A presentation of a book by the Institute of Geography took place at the Central Scientific Library Dec 29, 2025 | 05:12 / IMPORTANT EVENTS

A presentation ceremony for the book "Historical Achievements and Contemporary Problems of Geography in Azerbaijan," prepared by the Institute of Geography of ARMSE, was held at the National Library of Sciences of ANAS.

In addition to the staff of the Institute of Geography, the event was attended by staff from the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, representatives of BSU, ADPU, the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan, and other institutions.

After the welcoming speech, Acting Director of the Institute of Geography, PhD, Associate Professor Zaur Imrani, introduced the book's contents to those present. He noted that the book's development began in 2022 following a decision by the Institute's Scientific Council and proposed the idea for its creation. Professor Rza Makhmudov, Head of Department and Doctor of Geographical Sciences, served as the responsible author.

The professor noted that the book was created in response to the demands of the times and emphasized its main goal: to illuminate the path taken by geography, its historical achievements to date, the merits of prominent figures and their contributions to geography, and the need to convey this information to the current generation. He noted that today, it is necessary to approach issues of world and Azerbaijani geography from the perspective of global climate change, its regional consequences, the impact on water resources, and the impact of global climate change on the environment as a whole. He stated that doctoral and postgraduate students will benefit from this book and refer to it in their academic work and research.

Then, Doctors of Geographical Sciences Nariman Pashayev, Mahammad Abduyev, former Director General of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, Corresponding Member of ANAS Professor Alovsat Guliyev, as well as Doctors of Philosophy in Geography Mirnukh Ismailov, Solmaz Rzayeva and Juma Mamedov spoke about the value of the book, its encyclopedic significance and role as an excellent reference guide for young geographers and researchers.
