A presentation on the topic “Green Economy and Urban Management” was held at the Institute of Geography under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The lecture, titled “Geographical Aspects of the Impact of Green Economy on Urban Management”, was delivered by Doctor of Geographical Sciences Nəriman Pashaev, Head of the Laboratory of Geopolitics and Economic Geography at the Institute of Geography.
During the presentation, the concepts of green and blue economies, their differences from the brown economy, as well as the possibilities and geographical features of applying green economy principles in urban management, were discussed in detail. It was emphasized that the green economy represents a development model based on the efficient use of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, and improvement of social welfare. This approach involves not only technological innovations but also fundamental changes in governance and lifestyles.
The speaker highlighted that the “green city” concept is based on the principles of zero waste, low carbon emissions, and the use of renewable energy, which contributes to strengthening ecological balance and social welfare. Furthermore, the prospects for implementing green city concepts in Azerbaijan were explored, particularly in the cities of Shusha and Aghdam, which are currently undergoing reconstruction and restoration, where modern green urban infrastructure is being developed.
Nəriman Pashaev also emphasized the importance of planning cities in accordance with their climatic and spatial characteristics, transitioning to renewable energy sources, recycling waste, and making efficient use of water resources. It was noted that these approaches support the preservation of urban biodiversity, development of eco-mobility, and strengthening of community-based governance, creating conditions for more sustainable and livable cities.
At the conclusion of the presentation, key findings and practical recommendations were presented, followed by a question-and-answer session with the participants.
