Heavy atmospheric precipitation on March 27–28, 2026, caused the reactivation of landslides in the city of Baku. The head of the “Geomorphology and Paleogeography” laboratory at the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Stara Tarixazər, conducted monitoring of the landslide that occurred in the 20th area of Badamdar and determined that the retaining wall had collapsed. The soil mass caused damage to two car owners.
In recent years, landslides in the 20th area of the Sabail district have been observed in April 2014, May 2015, February and December 2016, October 2018, February and November 2020, January and March 2021, as well as in February 2026. The landslide masses moved toward the road surface, resulting in restricted traffic and damage to public catering facilities and residential areas. Numerous cracks were recorded in the asphalt surface.
The landslide was also activated on the slope where the Bibiheybat cemetery is located. The soil mass destroyed the retaining wall and descended onto the roadway. The largest landslide here occurred on November 25, 2019, with a length of 300 meters. The road surface was destroyed, and one car owner suffered damage.
