Professor Amir Aliyev, head of the Department of Geomorphology of the Coast and Bottom of the Caspian Sea of the Institute of Geography named after Academician H. Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, under the guidance of leading researcher, PhD Nazim Akhmedov and specialist Ramin Atakishiyev, conducted field research in the Neftchala region in connection with the decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea.
The researchers studied the processes occurring on the coast due to fluctuations in the Caspian Sea level, and also studied the geomorphological state of the coastal zone due to a sharp drop in the level in recent years.
Specialists who carried out measurements and monitoring at the mouth of the Kura River noted that the Caspian Sea has retreated by 500 meters in 20 years.
