A meeting of geographers with Liceum pupils as part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World”, was held at the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.Aliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The 7th grade pupils of the Caspian Liceum who visited the institute got acquainted with the exhibition located on the second floor of ANAS, the library of the institute and the department of geoinformatics and cartography, accompanied by junior research fellow, GIS specialist Nazim Garayli. N. Garayli informed liceum pupils about the work done at the institute, GIS technologies, the process of preparing and printing digital maps and atlases using modern tools.
The Director General of the Institute, Professor Zakir Eminov told the students about the importance of geographical science, the directions of scientific research, outstanding scientists who played a major role in the development of this field, the achievements of the institute, as well as the prestigious COP29, which will be held in Azerbaijan. The head of the institute, who provided information about the COP, spoke for the first time about the importance of this event, which will be held in our country, and its results for Azerbaijan and the world.
Then GIS specialist Nazim Garayli made a presentation on the topic “The Role of Geoinformation Systems in our life”, on the importance of GIS in climate research and synoptic forecasting, gave information on the practical application of GIS technologies, etc.
Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor, Scientific Secretary Saida Zeynalova and Head of the Education Department Museyib Yunusov spoke and gave information on green energy and environmental protection, answered their questions.
